The MESSAGEID (or MSGID or ID) command line argument enables you to replace the default Message-ID header with a user-defined value. This option enhances email tracking, tracing, and threading capabilities.
The Message-ID field is a standard email header that must be unique for every email message. If no MESSAGEID argument is specified, Command Line Email generates a default random Message-ID automatically.
Command syntax
- febootimail -MESSAGEID 959717047.1127758027@mail.example.com
- febootimail -MSGID 5e7d2c.8cbd2@lists.example.net
- febootimail -ID RFC-5322-compliant-message-id-header@example.org
The Message-ID can be any custom text string, however, it is recommended to follow the format defined in RFC 5322.
febootimail -SERVER smtp.example.com -FROM DB.msg@example.net -TO alerts@example.com -TEXT "CMD email with a custom message ID" -MESSAGEID "937945893.4934359034.2905@example.net"
When specifying the Message-ID, you don't need to include angle brackets <
and >
, as Febootimail automatically adds them when inserting your custom ID into the header field.
