"Failed to start Task on behalf of specified user"

Overview

The error indicates that a Task could not be started on behalf of specified user, namely, using that user's access credentials. As a consequence the Task which is configured to run on specific user account can not be executed.

Cause

Possible reason for failure of Automation Workshop to start Task is that either domain, user name or password is entered incorrectly in Task Properties Run As tab or such account does not exist. Verify that domain, user name and password is specified correctly and enter correct values in Task settings.

Notes

It is strongly recommended to use 32-bit Automation Workshop version on 32-bit Windows machines, and 64-bit version for 64-bit Windows machines. If 32-bit Automation Workshop version is mixed with 64-bit Windows or vice versa, the following error may occur: "Failed to start Task on behalf of specified user. The data area passed to a system call is too small. [os:122]". View all downloads to download correct version.

When the Task is triggered by System Startup & Shutdown Trigger upon system shutdown the following error may occur: "Failed to start Task "Shutdown Test" on behalf of specified user. A system shutdown is in progress. [os:1115]". The error occurs only if the user on whose behalf the Task is to be executed is neither the one currently logged in nor SYSTEM user. Note that the user whose credentials are used when executing the Task can be specified in the Run As tab of Task Properties.
